The Cardboard Box Challenge
We are getting ready to participate in The Cardboard Box Challenge! To prepare for this, thought about what it means to think outside the box. Then we read the book, Not A Box.
We identified the theme of the story: Think creatively...think outside the box!
We also talked about how the illustrations helped us make sense of what was written in the story and elaborated upon the written text.

Step 1: Dream Phase
We brainstormed possibilities for our cardboard creations. Here we dreamed big!
1. We brainstormed possibilities on sticky notes. We thought of as many ideas as we could within the time period.
2. We celebrated the ideas and categorized our creations.
3. We went back to the sticky notes one more time. We challenged ourselves to think of one more, different possibility.
4. We came together to share our other possibilities.

Looking To Others For Inspiration
We dreamed of what we thought was possible and documented our thinking through sketches & sharing ideas. What's next? Taking a look at what some participants imagined and made during last year's challenge!
Design Phase
We worked through the design thinking process. Here we: 1) Sketched our designs 2) Wrote an explanation of our design 3) Went through a work protocol where questions and I wonder statements were generated 4) Reflected: What will be easy to accomplish? What are some roadblocks? 5) Brainstormed ways to work through our roadblocks 6) Create a materials list
How Did We Do It?
Wouldn't you like to know? We will be writing how-to pieces to share how we made our cardboard creations!
Step 1: Look at how-to pieces to see how they are composed, to identify what we think is effective, and to find common characteristics from each of the pieces. We will use what we learn to help us craft our own pieces.

Step 2: After identifying effective characteristics in writing a how-to piece, we ventured off to write our own!

Our Culminating Event: Cardboard Creation & Inner Selfie Studio
Our culminating event was called The Cardboard Creation & Inner Selfie Studio Gallery Opening. Here shared our work with family members, building workers, and invited special guests who helped us along the way. It was amazing to show others what we created through much hard work and learning!
